If you are overseas and searching for UK factory and warehouse jobs with visa sponsorship, you deserve a clear answer before you spend money: picker, packer, production operative and forklift driver roles cannot be sponsored under the Skilled Worker visa. They could not be sponsored before the 2025 reforms either. Any advert or agent offering a sponsored “warehouse operative” job to applicants abroad is wrong or fraudulent.
What does exist is a band of supervisory, technical and engineering roles inside factories and distribution centres that still qualify. Some are graduate-level jobs such as production managers and process engineers. Others are technician and skilled trade roles kept open for a limited time through the Temporary Shortage List.

Can overseas applicants get sponsored for UK factory or warehouse work?
Only for the right kind of role. Since 22 July 2025, new Skilled Worker sponsorship generally requires a job at RQF level 6 (graduate level) with a salary of at least £41,700 or the occupation’s going rate, whichever is higher. A Temporary Shortage List keeps certain RQF 3–5 occupations sponsorable for a limited period, scheduled to the end of 2026 and under review.
Shop-floor operative jobs are classed at RQF 1–2. They are below every version of the skill threshold the UK has used since the points-based system began, so no sponsor licence holder can assign a Certificate of Sponsorship for them. The employer’s size makes no difference: a multinational with a licence can sponsor its engineers, but not its packers.
Why do so many adverts claim otherwise?
Three reasons. First, recycled content: websites copy old lists of “unskilled jobs with sponsorship” that were never accurate. Second, confusion with the Seasonal Worker visa, which does cover some packhouse work on farms but only for up to six months through approved operators. Third, fraud: criminals know that factory and warehouse work is what many applicants feel qualified for, so they sell fake offers for it.

Which supervisory and technical roles can still qualify?
The table below groups the realistic roles. Salary ranges are typical advertised figures, not guarantees, and the sponsorship position reflects the rules at the time of writing.

What the Temporary Shortage List does and does not do
Being on the list allows an employer to sponsor a role below graduate level. It does not switch off the salary rules, and new applicants sponsored in listed roles cannot bring dependants. The list is temporary and the Migration Advisory Committee is reviewing which occupations stay. Always check the current version through the Skilled Worker visa guidance on gov.uk rather than relying on any article, including this one.
The salary gap is the practical obstacle. Many technician jobs pay £32,000 to £40,000, below the general threshold. Lower rates can apply to “new entrants” such as people under 26, but most overseas applicants with experience will need an offer that clears the full figure in guaranteed basic pay. Shift allowances and overtime generally do not count.
What do sponsors look for in these roles?
Employers only go through the cost and paperwork of sponsorship for skills they cannot find locally. The strongest overseas candidates usually offer a mix of the following:
- A relevant degree, HND or recognised apprenticeship in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or industrial engineering, or supply chain management. UK ENIC can issue a statement of comparability.
- Automation skills: PLC programming and fault-finding on Siemens or Allen-Bradley systems, robotics, SCADA and conveyor or sortation systems used in modern distribution centres.
- Continuous improvement credentials such as Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, with measurable results.
- Sector standards: HACCP and BRCGS for food manufacturing, GMP for pharmaceuticals, IATF 16949 for automotive.
- Health and safety qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH, and for logistics managers, membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
- English at B2, the level required of new Skilled Worker applicants since January 2026.

How to apply from overseas: step by step
- Match your experience to an eligible occupation. Read the duties in the eligible occupations table on gov.uk, not just the job title.
- Build a target list from the official register. The Register of Licensed Sponsors lists every licensed employer. Look for food and drink manufacturers, aerospace and automotive suppliers, pharmaceutical plants, parcel carriers and third-party logistics providers.
- Apply through official careers pages and established job boards. State clearly that you require sponsorship and name the occupation you believe applies.
- Interview properly. Expect competency questions, a technical test or a presentation on a process improvement. A genuine employer will want to see you on video at the very least.
- Get the offer in writing with job title, duties, guaranteed salary, hours and site address, then wait for the employer to assign your Certificate of Sponsorship.
- Apply for the visa online with your CoS reference, English evidence, TB certificate if required, and proof of £1,270 in funds unless the sponsor certifies maintenance. Decisions usually take around three weeks.
How can you check that a job offer is genuine?
Factory and warehouse “sponsorship” is one of the most common UK visa scams. Run every offer through this checklist:
- Is the role eligible at all? If the job is operative, packer, picker, loader, cleaner or general labourer, stop. It cannot be sponsored.
- Is the company on the register under exactly the same legal name and town?
- Did anyone ask you for money? Genuine employers do not charge for offers, interviews or Certificates of Sponsorship, and sponsors are not allowed to pass sponsorship charges on to you.
- Is the email domain real? Offers from free webmail accounts, or from domains that differ slightly from the company’s website, are a red flag.
- Does the salary make sense? A “sponsored” job paying £25,000 is below the threshold and therefore impossible.
- Was there a real interview? Offers issued after a chat on a messaging app are not how UK employers recruit.
Labour providers in UK food processing and packaging must hold a licence from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority, and you can check that on its public register. For immigration advice, use only an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (formerly OISC) or a regulated solicitor.
What will relocation cost you?
With a real offer, your main costs are the visa fee, the Immigration Health Surcharge of £1,035 per adult per year paid upfront, an English test, a TB test where required, and flights. Your employer pays the Certificate of Sponsorship fee and the Immigration Skills Charge.
Many factories and distribution hubs sit in lower-cost regions such as the East Midlands, Yorkshire, the North East and South Wales, where a room in a shared house can cost half the London price. You will still need a deposit and rent in advance. Compare international money transfer providers when moving savings, and open a UK bank account early so your salary and credit history start building from the first month.
What are the alternatives if you do not qualify?
- A visa with open work rights. Dependants of sponsored workers, Graduate visa holders, Youth Mobility participants and partners of British or settled people can take any factory or warehouse job.

- Upskilling. A technician diploma plus automation experience, or an engineering degree, moves you into the sponsorable band.

Does Amazon sponsor warehouse workers for UK visas?
Large logistics companies hold sponsor licences, but they use them for eligible roles such as engineers, analysts and managers. Warehouse associate jobs are not eligible occupations, so they are filled by people who already have the right to work in the UK. Check the company’s official careers site for any role.
Can a forklift licence help me get a UK work visa?
No. Forklift driving is below the skill level for sponsorship, and UK employers usually require UK-accredited training such as RTITB or ITSSAR anyway. The licence is useful once you already have work rights.
Are warehouse supervisors eligible for sponsorship?

Often yes. Students, graduates and dependants can switch to Skilled Worker from inside the UK if they secure an eligible job. Visitors and Seasonal Workers cannot switch.
